Which wood should you choose?

We carry 8 species of wood in stock for your project needs. Each species has its own unique characteristics, which in turn can add different degrees of warmth, emphasis and beauty to its surrounding decor.

We’ve put together a guide with the basic characteristics of each species to help you choose.

Standard

Thickness: 20mm± or 40mm±
Lamellas: width >35mm

Ash

A white yellow variety with coarse light brown grains. A hard-wearing species.
Ash is a popular choice of wood in Japan. It is extremely useful in the creation of a Zen feel and look in any residential or commercial settings. It is the only wood that has white grains. Ash's simple and bright color can easily light up any environment.

Oak

A hardwood variety with a golden brown color and clear grain. Small knots of up to 10mm diameter may be present with a maximum of 2 knots per meter square.
Oak is readily available and in high demand as it matches with other furniture easily. It is highly sought after in Europe. This is the only wood used for creating a wire brush finishing due to its outstanding grain contrast. Wire brushed oak pieces are thinly coated with a layer polyurethane to make it waterproof and can be used for vanity tops or stair steps. Oak gives a rustic or designer feel to any designs.

Teak

A yellowish brown variety with good grains and texture suitable for any weather resistance uses. Teak emits an earthly smell that makes it naturally resistance to termites and other insects. Its low shrinkage ratio makes it excellent for use where there is changes in moisture. It is an easy material to work with for creating classical profile edging. Teak is extremely popular for making indoor or outdoor furnitures.

Zebrano

A wood species with a figure that resembles the striping of a zebra, with dark stripes on a light background. Strikingly impressive. Zebrano is gaining popularity in the West due to its exotic aura and is highly decorative in homes or galleries. It is most suitable for any heavy applications due to its extreme hardness. It is also the most difficult wood to work with. Zebrano is lovely tinted and richly veined. It is outstanding as an anchor piece in any design.

American Walnut

This fine dark wood variety has a varied and marked grains. There may be small firm knots of up to 5mm diameter with a maximum of 2 knots per meter square. It has a beautiful play of colour. Walnut has an executive look and feel to it. Its use will be creating a contemporary and urban feel to the environment. Commonly used for indoor furniture as it is a good go-between of light and dark coloured woods. American walnut is easily accepted and thus a safe choice in any concept.

Sapelli

This variety of mahogany woods ages elegantly over time to present its natural and luxurious beauty. It has uniform fine grains with very minimal knots. Sapelli, also known as African Mahogany, has a modern classical look and blends very well into a modern home. It is truly one of the most exotic, beautiful and desirable species of wood available today. It is suitable for making high end furnitures.

Wenge

A very dark brown variety, bordering on black, with straight black veins or unique tiger grains. It may display some yellow shades at first, but gradually alters its colour to be a beautiful, dark, almost black hue. An incredibly hard species. Wenge has an attractive and characteristic wood grains. The trees take a very long time to grow and its woods are highly sought after. It is suitable for making designer tables in residential or commercial settings. This species of wood gives very elegant and luxury feel to any environment. Wenge is a high end species to be considered for adding values to homes.

Beech

Beech is a tough wood that is widely used in the construction of houses and in the manufacture of furniture, frames, toys and woodenware. It is strong and durable with a good resistance to abrasion. It is a fine-grained wood that has a light orange to salmon colour. Furniture makers love its distinct pore pattern. One of the advantages of using beech wood for furniture is that it is odourless. It is the best choice if you do not want to have a wood smell in your living room or bedroom, and yet want light coloured furniture.

Oak

A HARDWOOD VARIETY WITH A GOLDEN BROWN COLOR AND CLEAR GRAIN. SMALL KNOTS OF UP TO 10MM DIAMETER MAY BE PRESENT WITH A MAXIMUM OF 2 KNOTS PER METER SQUARE.
OAK IS READILY AVAILABLE AND IN HIGH DEMAND AS IT MATCHES WITH OTHER FURNITURE EASILY. IT IS HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER IN EUROPE. THIS IS THE ONLY WOOD USED FOR CREATING A WIRE BRUSH FINISHING DUE TO ITS OUTSTANDING GRAIN CONTRAST. WIRE BRUSHED OAK PIECES ARE THINLY COATED WITH A LAYER POLYURETHANE TO MAKE IT WATERPROOF AND CAN BE USED FOR VANITY TOPS OR STAIR STEPS. OAK GIVES A RUSTIC OR DESIGNER FEEL TO ANY DESIGNS.
